As I sat at my desk drafting these reflections on running, I pondered when my deep interest in the sport began. My thoughts were instantly taken back to my youth and the mentor who first introduced me to running.
My middle school physical education teacher often entered me in running competitions. I remember vividly the times you took me to participate in city-wide races at Nanyang's No. 1 Middle School, No. 3 Middle School, No. 5 Middle School, Huancheng No. 1 Middle School, and Tang Normal College. I usually trained in simple Double Star canvas shoes. You said that everyone else wore spiked shoes for competition, and I would be at a disadvantage without them. So, together we went to a sports goods store near Tang Normal College, where you helped me pick out my first pair of spiked shoes. It was the first time I stood on a 100-meter track wearing shoes with spikes. I've never been able to part with those shoes; they still rest quietly in a corner of my hometown room. At this moment, I miss you dearly, the steaming hot and spicy soup and fried buns in our hometown mornings, the meat you put in my bowl during competition meals, the special attention and training you gave to this thin student in your physical education class, and the Tanghe Suizhou Pagoda you took me to see after a running competition—the tallest ancient pagoda I had looked up to in my youth. It seemed like a lighthouse guiding and illuminating my path forward, and the person who lit this lighthouse was you! As I've grown older and seen many different towers at home and abroad, none have been as enduring and irreplaceable as this one.
Over twenty years have passed in the blink of an eye, with time swiftly flowing like sand through an hourglass, gone in an instant. The bitterness and joy are still buried in the dust of time. It mercilessly washes away your gradually blurred image from my memory, but the image of you holding a stopwatch, whistling, and recording my performance is deeply branded in my mind. I regret that my shyness at the time never allowed me to say thank you. The heart of gratitude I have for you has always been there, but unfortunately, I don't have a single photo of you. How is the big brother teacher from that year?
I checked the Dingdong record and found that I've been running for 538 days. Lately, I've been thinking about writing down my journey, which is also a way of recording life and encouraging myself. I know that true persistence is not so easy; it requires enough seriousness and my special attention. To speak of tangible benefits, although the weight loss is not significant, old friends say I've thinned down, but in fact, my body is more toned. My physique has become more agile, and my clothing size has changed from M to S.
In addition, I have much more energy than before, always full of enthusiasm, and when faced with issues, I have the courage to slap the table and tell the team: "Let's do it!" I've actually gained a bit of decisive and manly spirit, haha!
01 The Original Intention of Running and the Physical and Mental Health and Fun It Brings to Me
(1)The 2020 pandemic had a great impact on my life and work. At the beginning of January, I was still in the United States for a business trip to promote our products. The exhibition was very successful, and I was looking forward to making a big breakthrough in sales in 2020. Then, after returning to the country, the pandemic broke out. As a member of the Communist Party, I actively responded to the call of the higher-ups and joined the team fighting the epidemic. My mood in February was immersed in depression and sorrow, and only by being busy participating in volunteer activities could I calm down a bit. In March and April, the epidemic broke out in full swing abroad, and foreign trade customers successively canceled orders, and even abandoned the goods that were completed. I was very anxious and felt the pressure, and I couldn't sleep all night. I heard that running can cure various mental diseases and depression. Moreover, I had a bit of a running foundation when I was young, so I started to try it. At first, I was panting and out of breath when running. I couldn't understand when people said running would be addictive. Such a boring sport would be addictive? Impossible, right? But now I love it. As my running performance improved, I enjoyed the fun of running more and more. It's really important to have a hobby in life that makes you happy, has nothing to do with others, and is beneficial to your health. Running also has many technical requirements. It requires you to have the correct running posture, appropriate equipment, and to do what you can. It gives you a clear implication that you have to work hard, but don't overdo it! You have to seek a balance between impulse and skill, pleasure and pain, health and pleasure. Life is not a competition, not a competition with others, nor a competition with age or the times. Life is a process of walking and singing.
A good runner must have gained great spiritual enjoyment in it. Otherwise, what are you looking for? I ran better, more easily, faster, and further than yesterday, but if I am not happier, then all of this is not worth mentioning.
(2)I don't like running on a treadmill. Running on a machine like a robot, I can hardly feel any fun and always get tired easily. But outdoor running doesn't have this feeling. Not only is the body and mind comfortable, but I also listen to a lot of songs and feel a lot of scenery. No matter what the weather, no matter the time, no matter where I am, as long as I have time, I immediately change into running shoes and go running. Slowly, after running, I sweat and feel comfortable all over, my mood is comfortable, and my physique is also improving imperceptibly. In the flu season, I also resisted the flu virus, and the more I ran, the more relaxed and confident I became. Sometimes at night with the lights on, I run alone, watching the surrounding scenery slowly move back, and all kinds of messy and noisy sounds are accompanied by the rhythmic stepping sound. I feel like I am integrated with the surrounding environment, very comfortable and very comfortable. I often encounter alert wild cats, suddenly appearing at the corner, squatting and quietly looking at me, as if observing my speed, and I am afraid that they will suddenly pounce over, making me inexplicably nervous and accelerating...
(3)The most wonderful experience is when the moonlight is just right, and the road is empty. The weeds that look overgrown during the day are just thick tree shadows in the moonlight. The road is dazzling and clean, surrounded by street lights that emit a warm color. I don't want to run into the shadows, the moon is so round, the moonlight is so soft, the sky is high and the clouds are sparse. So I circle around the park's track, and every time I look up, I see the moon just right, and it's still there after another circle. I happily circle around, and she quietly shines on me. At this moment, it seems that only I and the moon are in the world, isn't it romantic?
Sometimes in order to complete the running plan, I run on the road at four or five o'clock in the morning, and I have also run wildly in the cold weather with low temperatures. More importantly, there are those running friends who accompany me, giving me the most true touch. In addition to being touched, there are more emotions. The crowd is surging, and I cherish those who are willing to stop for me.
02 Joining the Running Group: The Role Models Among Many Running Gods Continuously Stimulate the Passion for Running
One early morning in November 2020, I met the runners of the Pingshan Feiyue Running Group while running and finally found an organization. Joining this team was also to communicate and learn from outstanding runners to improve my performance. I am grateful for the well-crafted training plans and programs that the running friends have made for me, the company and corrections during the example runs, the experience sharing and reminders, and the warm encouragement. With a heart full of gratitude, I thank the brothers of Feiyue. Although we have known each other for a short time, their friendly smiles and the bits and pieces of friendship have made a deep impression on me. Without your company, supervision, and encouragement, I would not have achieved such satisfactory results. The strong learning and communication atmosphere among the running friends continuously stimulates the sustainable vitality of running. In February 2021, I participated in the Huizhou Honghua Lake running competition and met the runners of the Huizhou Xin Run Group. They gave me the power of warmth, and I was very moved. Whenever Jia Yao Company organizes activities, the runners actively participate. They are very enthusiastic about calling for Jia Yao, I love you all!
03 Painless and Scientific Running to Continuously Improve Running Performance
(1) Clarify the Purpose of Running
My purpose for running is very simple, to cultivate perseverance by sticking to a habit. I feel that I am a person who is used to compromising. I am fed up with my own three-minute enthusiasm and really can't tolerate my habitual giving up. So I want to use running, through running regardless of wind and rain, to forge my willpower and shape my character. Even if I run very tired, I have never given up. I have never thought that running is an interesting thing. After persisting for more than 100 days, there will also be a period of fatigue. When everyone is very puzzled, why can I persist in running when it is so boring. Because I am not running for the sake of pursuing fun, what I pursue in running is self-discipline and restraint.
(2) Set a Small Goal First
I have always advocated for small goals because they are easier to achieve. Run 10km each time every day, because the time needed to run 10km is not much, and try to invest 1 hour in running. So every time I run, I only ask myself to execute seriously, as long as it is not due to work and physical reasons, I will complete my goal. Some people may look down on small goals, thinking that if you don't do it, you might as well make a big deal. But in fact, small goals are relatively simple. As long as you can spare 60 minutes a day, you can complete the task, and it will not bring you too much pressure. It is valuable to persist. The monthly target should not be less than 200km. If you want to run a full marathon, this standard is the minimum training limit. I believe that few people run a total of more than 2400km a year. If you also want to run, set a small goal first.
(3) Find a Sense of Achievement
If you want to persist in something for a long time, only willpower and determination are far from enough. Only a continuous sense of achievement can support us to move forward. Although running is not an interesting thing, we can still give full play to people's subjective initiative and bring a little fun to the monotonous life of running. Sometimes, I will sing while running as if no one else is around, which not only exercises my courage but also liberates myself from the repetitive running experience. When I am in good condition, for a 10km run, I will warm up for the first 2km, maintain a constant speed for the next 6km, and if I still have strength in the last 2km, I will run at full speed and finish 10km in 50 minutes, enjoying the sense of achievement brought by speed. I also participate in various check-in activities in the running group to urge myself. After persisting, I find that some things are not as difficult as imagined. We are not short of scientific methods, firm determination, or comprehensive plans. What we lack is only the courage to take the first step bravely. As long as we start to act, all problems can find solutions in action.
(4) There is No Tomorrow That Cannot Be Reached
On the 208th day of running, in today's gathering of many gods, I want to witness the efforts and persistence of an ordinary person with you. The gradual realization of self-goals continuously strengthens the interest and extensibility of running. On the road in the future, you and I will run together. Running can indeed reflect a person's attitude towards life, and it is not an exaggeration to say that it is a microcosm of life... Some people strive for the upper reaches, set goals for themselves, and have plans for their speed, distance, and even competition results, and achieve them step by step. I admire most of these people with good grades. Some people are eager to win and eager to succeed, but as a result, the body is overloaded, leading to injuries or even sudden death, and they have to give up running. There are also people who are afraid of hardship and tiredness, and after running for a while, they return to the leisurely and peaceful state of the past...
As for me? If it started for the sake of health, and later persisted for the sake of health, now it is because I like it... I have set goals, of course, the bottom line at different times is also constantly changing. I like this positive, energetic self, and I like to do pure and independent things. Because running is carried out independently and in a relatively long state of loneliness, it has a kind of spirituality.
04 Enlightenment and Touch Brought by Running a Marathon
On December 27, 2020, I participated in a marathon for the first time.
(1) Whether it is registration or participation, the organizing committee gives the "top" players the greatest possible support. Excellent results will have invitational tournaments and direct entry quotas, and you can choose and decide where to participate and have the right to choose. Average or poor results can only wait for the fate of the draw to decide whether you are qualified to participate. Participating in different areas also determines your position and starting line. The same is true in the workplace and business, if your ability is prominent, you can choose the team you want to join according to your wishes, and if you are not capable, you can only wait to be chosen by others.
In business, if you are in the position of a top merchant on the platform, the platform will give more traffic and exposure support, and then the order volume will also be a lot. So each of us must strive to become a "top" position in order to win more speaking rights and business opportunities.
(2) The marathon track is gender-neutral. When the starting gun sounds, everyone's finish line is the same. The race will not allow you to run one kilometer less because you are a woman; life does not require tickets for poetry and the distance because you are a woman; work will not require you to fight hard because you are a woman. Women in the new era should be self-improving, put away all the affectation, and run a colorful and fulfilling life. Let's share this sentiment with all women.
(3) Life is like a marathon. If you hesitate and slacken, your opponent will easily surpass you. If you can rush to the finish line regardless of everything, the distance to success will be very close. In fact, the process of running is the process of continuous advancement in life. I have always been running in my own love.
